There is an appealing history to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just over the border from next door Thailand, in which gambling den gaming is prohibited. Eight gambling dens are based in a relatively small area in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia casinos is in a perfect area, a three to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular betting centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The amazing income accrued from the gambling halls ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few limitations constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mostly Thai; however, financing sources are cryptic. The borders are ceremoniously open from 09:00 to 5:00 p.m., and even though visas are supposedly needed to cross, there are methods around this, as is true of most border crossings.

The initial Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving just one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked ship gambling den, highlights one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 60 table games. The Naga gambling hall is open all hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of 21, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The initial casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon opened. There are one hundred and fifty slots and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slots and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 one armed bandits and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and 66 of the familiar tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a comprehensive resort and hotel compound that features numerous luxuries on top of the gambling den, which has 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machines and 88 tables.
